In Memory of Dr. Les Smith

Veterinarian

Dr. Les Smith, a cornerstone of St. Georges Veterinary Hospital for over 30 years, passed away on May 17, 2013. He was 59 years old.

Dr. Smith attended Rutgers University for his bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology and the Universidad de Guadalajara School of Veterinary Medicine for his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating, Dr. Smith joined St. Georges Veterinary Hospital. He remained a partner at the hospital until the end of his career.

He had a lifelong thirst for knowledge, returning to Rutgers University in 1989 and earning a master’s in Library Science in 1996.

Dr. Smith was also passionate about health and fitness. He was an avid backpacker, yoga student, and skier.

Those of us lucky enough to have known him will always remember his generous heart, dignity and sense of humor. He impacted everyone at St. Georges, from veterinarians to staff members and clients alike. He was a wonderful veterinarian and a friend to us all.

We love our clients!

Had a very good experience with my visit here in April, 2022. The vet was wonderful with my dog. He had ear issues and she administered a one-time ear med that worked fast and wonderful. I don’t have to fuss with him now trying to put drops in his ears at home several times a day.
Thanks to Dr. Dorney and modern meds this was a great experience. Will visit again with my other dog…Also the place is in the process of a face-lift which will be nice when finished.

Don’t hesitate to visit St. George’s Vet for all your animal needs.

This animal hospital should definitely have five stars at all times. Today I had to put my Great Dane down. The compassion I received from the Dr and the vet techs were beyond empathetic. The Dr was very gentle and understanding and I can’t thank them enough. Thank you for all your support at St George animal hospital.

I have been at the vet a lot lately as I have 2 new kittens on top of 2 cats and a dog. Our family rescued 2 kittens when they were .5 pound and 1 pound. They were very sick, upper respiratory infection, parasite, and worms. Dr Dorney has mostly followed them and I have come to trust her completely. She is patient, caring and explains things in a way that is understandable. The staff there is also so caring. The office is always busy and it is not always easy to get a same day appointment. The staff is so concerned with the pets’ issue that they will call back if there is a cancellation. When my kittens got fleas, they went out of their way to create a packet for me with free samples to help with the cost of treating 5 animals for fleas. This office truly cares about animals and will bend over backwards to help in any way they can.
